Purpose: To demonstrate charge tranfer to a sphere and its properties |

Hook up the Wimshurst to the variable capacitor with the banana to alligator cables. Leave the arms of the Wimshurst up so the leyden jars are disconnected. Dangle the coated ping pong ball on a string in the middle of the plates of he capacitor. As you crank the Wimshurst it will oppositely charge the plates of the capactitors. The ping pong ball will gather charge from one plate, then repel, then repeat to keep dinging back and forth. |
