E45: Helmholtz Coils |
Purpose: To create a uniform magnetic field, to show electromagnetic induction. |
Description: |
Place a constant direct current through the coils to produce a uniform magnetic field. Use the magnetic field sensor to demonstrate that the magnetic field is approximatly uniform between the coils if the coils are spaced at distance equal to the diameter of the coils. Place a time varying singal on the coils and use the pick up coils to demostrate Faraday's law of electromagnetic induction on the computer or oscilloscope. |
