L35: Diffraction Patterns

Purpose: To demonstrate diffraction patterns of light through differenet types of slits.

Description:

1) Pasco Optical Bench with diode laser, multiple and single slit sets,     and a viewing screen.

Mount the diode laser on one end of the bench and the viewing screen on the other. First put the multiple slit set on the track (make sure the laser hits the slit; there are adjustments on the back of the laser) and observe the diffraction patterns from different types of slits. Next try the single slit set.

2) Another simpler option just is a He-Ne laser and a sliding slit set     which could be arranged anywhere.

3) A third option is the "closing door" two razorblades accessory.
