W36: Chladni Plates |
Purpose: To show two dimensional standing wave patterns in metal plates. |
Description: |
Attach the chladni plate to the mounting rod with the screw in the top. Mount it firmly to the table with a large table clamp so it is suspended in the air a little. Sprinkle some sand on the plate. With plenty of rosin on the bow and making sure it is taught run the bow down the edge of the plate firmly. If performed correctly you should hear a good musical note and the sand will begin to move into 2-D wave forms. You may have to do this several times to get good results. |
