Physics 4614
Optics
Fall 2002
A light-emitting diode (LED) made from
a conducting polymer. The strong electroluminescence
of conducting polymers such as poly(2-methoxy-5-(2'-ethylhexyloxy)-1,4-phenylenevinylene)
(MEH-PPV) is demonstrated in a 100 nm spin-cast film
sandwiched between aluminum and an indium tin oxide (ITO)
transparent electrode. Such devices will allow the development of
inexpensive, large-area, flexible, flat-panel displays.
