Summer Institute for Neutrino Theory 2017

July 23-29 2017 at Virginia Tech

Rationale

The 2015 Physics Nobel Prize was awarded to Art McDonald and Takaaki Kajita for "the discovery of neutrino oscillations, which shows that neutrinos have mass". This in itself is one of the very few chinks in the otherwise extremely successful Standard Model of particle physics.

With a large number of current and planned experiments and observatories---IceCube, DUNE, JUNO, T2K, NOvA, nEXO, Katrin and many others---the next decade will see a vast amount of new high-quality data. These new data herald an era of precision neutrino science, across many energy and length scales, which requires a commensurate effort in neutrino theory to maximally exploit these data in pursuit of the outlined science questions.

Event

The Summer Institute for Neutrino Theory (SINT) will bring together neutrino theorists at all career stage across the disciplines of astro, nuclear and particle physics. Formal lectures and a small number of topical seminar presentations will allow participants to profit from the broad expertise represented by the senior participants and to discuss open issues and develop new ideas in a relaxed atmosphere. For the participating students the formal lectures provide an opportunity to learn from world-leading experts about cutting edge topics.

SINT will take place at Virginia Tech on the Blacksburg campus from Sunday, July 23 till Saturday July 29, 2017.

SINT is sponsored by the Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory and from within Virginia Tech by the Center for Neutrino Physics, the Department of Physics and the College of Science. This sponsorship allows us to host this event without charging registration fees.
