Equipment List:

  1. Computer - 2000 level Desktop
  2. LabPro Interface
  3. LabPro Interface Power Supply
  4. Motion Detector (Vernier) (DIG/SONIC 1)
  5. Motion Detector Cord (Vernier)
  6. 2.2 Meter Cart Track
  7. 2 x Track Feet Brackets
    • Each bracket needs to have 2 x Track Feet in each bracket (so four feet total)
  8. 2 x Endstops (one at each end of the track)
    • They will need to be screwed in with Screw, Thumb - Track End Stop
  9. Elevation Clamp
  10. Rod - 45cm
  11. Track Pulley (PASCO)
    • Track Pulley Bracket
  12. Braided String
  13. Vernier Dynamics Cart
  14. 500g Cart Mass
  15. Screw, Thumb-Vernier Cart Mounting Short
  16. Wing Nut
  17. Mass Hanger 50g
  18. Hanging Mass Holder
  19. Mass Set with the following masses:
    • 1 x 10g Mass
    • 2 x 20g Mass
    • 2 x 50g Mass
    • 1 x 100g Mass
    • 2 x 200g Mass
    • 1 x 500g Mass

General class use:

  1. Electronic Balance

Notes and tests:

  1. Make sure tracks are leveled.
  2. Start the Logger Pro file "Lab 4a.xmbl" in the Lab 4 folder of Class Notes. Make sure the switch on the motion detector is on the cart setting. Click "Collect" and move the cart in front of the motion detector to test if the movement of the cart is detected by the motion detector.
  3. Put the motion detector on the cart setting. You will need to make sure the motion detector is angled just right to create a smooth graph across the whole length of the track.
