...the point where heaven and Earth
meet...
This quote is part of the orginal caption of
the 19th century Flammarion woodcut and it describes very well what
astro-particle physics in the 21st century is all about.
The research presented on these pages focuses on particles, called neutrinos and their relation to heaven and Earth and anything inbetween. Neutrinos are the second most common particle species in the Universe and they play an important part in astrophysics, cosmology and high energy physics. In the future they also may find applications in nuclear non-proliferation safeguards and national security. A true understanding of neutrinos would greatly advance each of these disciplines, and vice versa each of these disciplines can help our understanding of neutrinos. Our research is conducted under the auspices of the Center for Neutrino Physics at Virginia Tech.
