Lab 6: Forces and Acceleration

Dynamics cart with masses and force probe attached

Equipment List:

  1. LabPro Interface
  2. Motion Detector (DIG/SONIC 1) with:
    • Motion Detector Cord
    • Wooden Block to guard front of Motion Detector from cart.
  3. 2.2 Meter Cart Track with:
    • Two Track Feet Brackets with two Track Feet in each.
    • Two Endstops. (one for either end)
    • Attached to the table with
      • Elevation Clamp
      • Rod - 45cm
      • Universal Clamp - Medium
  4. Vernier Dynamics Cart with:
    • three 500g Cart Mass attached with:
      • Screw, Thumb-Verneir Cart Mounting Short
      • Screw, Thumb-Verneir Cart Mounting Long
      • Wing Nut
    • Force Sensor (Vernier) Atached to the cart with:
      • Force Probe Post Vernier
  5. Track Pulley
  6. Ruler, Metric - 30cm
  7. 150 cm String
  8. Mass Hanger
  9. Mass Set with the following masses:
    • 1 x 10g Mass
    • 2 x 20g Mass
    • 2 x 50g Mass
    • 1 x 100g Mass
    • 2 x 200g Mass
    • 1 x 500g Mass

General class use:

  1. Loading...
  2. Transition notes (Summer Only):

    1. Leave out: the tracks with feet, end stop attached, carts with 500g mass attached, force sensors, rulers, and mass sets.
    2. Take away the: rubber bands and spring scale.
    3. Sweepy sweepy
    4. Put out motion detectors and cords, pulleys, and additional cart mass.
    5. Notes and tests:

      1. Start the Logger Pro file "Lab 6a.xmbl" in the Lab 6 folder of Class Notes. Click "Collect" push and pull the force sensor hook and see if the force is displayed on the graph.
