Physics 2215 Laboratory Equipment List

2215 Lab 9: Waves

Sine wave generator on its rod

Equipment List:

  1. String Vibratorwith string from Elastic String Spool attached.
  2. Sine Wave Generator connected to the Vibrator by:
    • Black Banana Plug Cord
    • Red Banana Plug Cord
    • Vibrator AC Adapter
    • Power Cord
  3. Pulley on Rod in Small Table Clamp
  4. 90cm Rod for vibrator and and sine wave generator in a Large Table Clamp
  5. Mass Set with the following masses:
    • 1 x 10g Mass
    • 2 x 20g Mass
    • 2 x 50g Mass
    • 1 x 100g Mass
    • 2 x 200g Mass
    • 1 x 500g Mass
  6. 50g Mass Hanger
  7. 2 Meter Stick with wooden supports and two sliding pointers (ninja stars)

General Class Use:

  1. Electronic Balance - 2,200g 0.01g Readability
  2. 1 Meter Stick
  3. String - Elastic, 10cm for measuring linear density

Notes and Tests:

  1. Place the pulley so it is about level with the knot tied at the other end on the string vibrator.
  2. Mount the Sine Wave Generator on the same rod above the String vibrator.
  3. Place one of the pointers past the support near the pulley. Place the other pointer between the two supports.
  4. Make sure when the mass holder hangs over the pulley with no extra weight the knot is not on the pulley, and when you add 350g to the mass holder it does not touch the floor (if only barely).
  5. Test the String Vibrators.

Transition Notes:(Summer Only)

  1. You may leave out the 50g mass hanger and mass set.
  2. Everything else gets put away.
Objects subject to Left/Right Reflection

This is what your table should look like once set up (though the mouse and keyboard should be in front of the meter stick)

Clearly the most lovable lab

How to wire the Sine Wave generator (E2.2) to the String Vibrator (E2.2)

The Small universal Clamp will need to be upside down.
