Physics 2216 Laboratory Equipment List

Lab 17: Capacitance

This needs to be replaced with a more fun image

Equipment List:

  1. 2216 Circuit Board with:
    • 10 Volt Bulb in Socket A.
    • 2 x Long Jumper Wire in the component holder.
    • 4 x Short Jumper Wire in the component holder.
    • 3 x 100 nanoFarad Capacitor in the component holder.
  2. 1 Pair of Large Aluminum Plates
  3. 1 Pair of Small Aluminum Plates
  4. 1 Pair of Plexiglass Plates
  5. Large "Soda Can" Capacitor
  6. LCR Meter with Leads
  7. Autorange DMM This may not be needed, please Tell Henry to check
  8. Current Limited Power Supply
  9. Vernier Caliper
  10. 30 cm ruler
  11. 1 sheet of 11" x 17" paper. With a stapled stack of 10 and extra on the TA counter please.
  12. Red banana plug cord
  13. Black banana plug cord
  14. Black alligator clips
  15. Red alligator clips
  16. 2 x Red Alligator to Alligator.
  17. 2 x Black Alligator to Alligator.

Notes and tests:

  1. Test the bulbs, meters, and power supplies.
  2. To test the capacitance meters measure the capacitance of the aluminum plates. Set the multimeters to the 4 nF scale.

Transition Notes: (Summer Only)

  1. Leave out the multimeters.
  2. Put away everything else.
Full table set up of capacitance. The 3 type of plates are on the left of the computer and the meters, circuit board, and capacitor are on the right.

This is what your table should look like once set up

Additional Images below:

The plates and paper oragnized so that they fill up one side of the table neatly.

Keep things organized by setting up the plates and paper on one side.

The LCR Meter with leads plugged in

An LCR Meter

The circuit board with then 10 V bulb in slot B, 2 long jumper wires, 4 short jumper wires, and 3 small capacitors.

The 10v bulb should be in A, not B.
